Re: New to Synthesia, 2 small questions

No, I was actually talking about sight reading. You don't need Synthesia to learn to read sheet music, there's already about a million Youtube videos on that topic. However, I think you could use it to learn to read as you play (or maybe in advance of what you play) regardless of whether or not you ...

Re: New to Synthesia, 2 small questions

I don't think current version of Synthesia is good for learning to sight read. Personally, I'll wait until 11(? I think) comes out with its promised MusicXML support and ability to display real sheet music. Unless I'll learn sight reading in some other way by then.

Re: New to Forum and Pianos

I don't know which suggestions you're looking for, but if you're asking on a Synthesia forum, I'm pretty sure people will say "yes, Synthesia is a good way to learn piano". However, my opinion is that if you use Synthesia, you don't need lighted keys. Lighted keys or Synthesia are two alternative me...

Re: Synthesia does not load .synthesia file

Probably the midi file you're targeting already contained the finger hints inside Synthesia. You could try deleting it entirely, and then re-adding it together with its corresponding .synthesia file. Well, that is in effect what you did when you downgraded to 10.3.

Re: Change Key Tonality

I don't use Sibelius, but if it really can't support key signature changes, then simply generate the MIDI, then open it in a dedicated MIDI editor such as Sekaiju and fix it any way you like.

Re: Learning Hand Positioning for songs

I think it's a skill you acquire from experience, and experience comes from playing beginner pieces with finger hints marked for you. Fortunately, Synthesia provides just that. If you play all the built in pieces from the easiest to the hardest level, you will practice many fingering patterns that y...

Re: Weighted key on electronic keyboard

I'll tell you as another beginner. After I upgraded to a keyboard with weighted keys, I did feel it was more difficult to play, but that lasted for maybe a couple of weeks. Now I don't even notice that keys have any weight to them. Now, the advantage of having weighted keys for me (other than the ob...

Re: Save loops separately for each hand

Yes! Actually, I'm doing this with Synthesia. It's a very nice psychological trick. The further along you get, the stronger and more confident you are. On the other hand, if you do mess up toward the end, the frustration is that much higher.

Re: Save loops separately for each hand

Well, it's possible I have to take another look at how I study pieces. I have mostly played using Synthesia, so it never really occurred to me to do the same measure all three ways before moving on just because it is in fact inconvenient with the current interface. But now that I think of it, whenev...

Re: Save loops separately for each hand

To be honest, I don't think I'd use that feature often. I would prefer to complete one hand at a time for the entire piece. At least with the difficulty of the pieces I've played so far, that's how it's been working out. The other hand would play just so I do something while the first hand is restin...

Re: How To Convert MP4 To MP3 In Windows 10

It's nice and clean after you're done with it, but I don't know if it's my luck or what, one out of two times I'm here, the forum is filled with spam and is basically unusable. I think you should consider premoderating posts of new users (i.e. those with 0 posts). Once they make a legit post once, m...

Save loops separately for each hand

When I'm trying to learn a piece hands separately, sometimes a hand gets tired before I get tired overall. So to give it a break, I'd love to jump to learning the other hand, but unfortunately it would mess up the current loop I have set. Moving loops around, especially in a long piece, isn't all th...

Re: Sustain Pedal

Definitely search on YouTube for how to use the sustain pedal. There are a few videos that lay it out in detail. It's something that is very easy to understand theoretically, but requires quite a bit of practice to develop correct coordination. As to when to use the pedal, I think it's mostly when y...

Re: Any books/resources on playing solo piano from songbooks

Hmm, now that I think of it, most songs in the Synthesia store are accompaniment rather than solo, maybe I could use them as well. They come with all the tracks in the midi.

Re: Request for another learning feature

It sounds like a great quality of life feature in theory, but I don't think it's that easy to implement. First of all, how you split up the song depends on its difficulty. If you have only 5 notes in 5 seconds, it's one thing. If you have 25 notes in the same interval, it's a whole other level of di...

Re: Running Synthesia on a Windows 10 tablet

I think it's more a Windows bug than Synthesia. I'm getting this problem in other apps on my tablet too. Normally, if the taskbar is visible in tablet mode, there is an icon for keyboard at the bottom right, so you can use that to bring it up.

Re: Running Synthesia on a Windows 10 tablet

Works on Switch 3 with no performance issues. Only it froze solid once, had to kill it from the task manager, which I haven't seen before on my desktop PC. But overall, I couldn't be happier -- putting the tablet in front of me and playing from it is just so much more convenient.

Re: Any books/resources on playing solo piano from songbooks

Thank you very much! This sounds like a really interesting exercise, I will definitely give it a try. But I suspect there is going to be a bit of an issue playing like this in the lower octaves. Unless the chord is spaced very widely, it just doesn't sound nearly as good as in the higher octaves whe...

Re: Any books/resources on playing solo piano from songbooks

Thanks! This term "comping" helped find a couple of more resources that had some useful info. But still, can't find anything fundamental for purposes of simply playing popular songs. I guess this skill you're just supposed to pick up on your own somehow?

Any books/resources on playing solo piano from songbooks?

So from what I understand, songbooks typically give you the notes for the melody line, plus the chords. Sometimes they give you the full piano accompaniment for two hands, plus the melody for voice. What I would like to play is both melody and harmony -- basically, what I think is called solo piano....
