Problem using Synthesia on iPad with official Apple adapter

Hello Nicholas! It's been such a long time. How are you and how is Synthesia development going? Are you still working on Synthesia full time? I'm still using it with my autistic students to great effect. One parent uses Synthesia on iPad and Mac. I'm writing about a problem with the Lightning to USB...

Re: Show/Mute buttons for Simple View?

So, the upcoming (long awaited) 0.8.4 dev preview has two new options that seem like they address your need. It's isn't very convenient for changing the setting on the fly, but if you wanted the other hand to be muted or hidden in general, the new "The Other Hand" and "Background Instruments" setti...

Re: hitting 3 octaves with one hand?

The only way to do this - and this kind of situation does exist in other pieces of music, most often the Romantic virtuosic music of Liszt (e.g. La Campanella) and possibly Chopin too - is to turn off the "Only continue when all correct notes are held at the same time" option in Game Options, and th...

Show/Mute buttons for Simple View?

I've lately switched from Simple View to Advanced View in order to have my hands separate practice uninterrupted by seeing and hearing the other hand. Would it be possible to add Show and Mute check boxes or buttons for the left and right hand parts in Simple View? I'm wondering how it would work wi...

Re: MOD/XM/S3M Support

Some (not-so-small) issues to consider with MOD files and (anything under 16 tracks to be honest) are that: - some samples may be tuned differently in the file - so a note that sounds as an A might be written as something completely different in the file because of the sample's tuning. MOD/S3M and o...

Re: Piano Technique Series for Synthesia

Hi all, Glad you're enjoying the scales and arpeggios! Apologies for the delay with the minor arpeggios. My sister is getting married tomorrow (after 18 months of planning), and I'm handling all the music for it, so I've been ridiculously busy for what seems like forever. Things will calm down for m...

Score chart issue?

Hey Nicholas, I encountered what I thought could be a possible issue with the score chart (unless I am misunderstanding the way it works). Here's what I encountered. score chart bug 1.png This picture shows that I have played this song in melody mode more than twice today... score chart bug 2a.png s...

Re: Removing Song Library Flags?

I have never used flags in the Song Library. Folder organisation, along with looking at the score tables allows me to almost instantly tell what state a song is in. (Whether it needs to be learned, refined, needs more practice or is performable, for instance.) Personally, I would prefer flags (or so...

Re: Total Newbie - Synthesia suggest finger breaking moves?

My version of the scale shown (it looks like Db major) definitely shows 1 instead of 3. Perhaps you accidentally changed it? Can anyone else please verify that their copy contains a 1 in the place shown? I have not made any further modifications to my already-released scales, so the version included...

Re: Found several teachers

If there are teachers who are acting hostile towards you when asking about their qualifications, I'd say that's a red flag right there. Some of the more common things you will see: Dip.ABRSM = Diploma from the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music - this is one level above grade 8 (which is...

Re: Advices For Playing More Advanced Pieces?

First off, I am so sorry I haven't had a chance to reply to this topic until now, and even then, this reply will likely be a fairly short one (compared to some of my other posts!) and I'll add more as I go along or as new questions arise. I've just done a Grade 7 exam from the Associated Board of th...

Re: Found several teachers

Where in the world are you? Generally music examinations are a good indicator of overall skill (and they are taken worldwide, so it's pretty much a universal thing). If you name drop Trinity Guildhall or ABRSM (or RCM if you're in Canada, or AMEB if you're in Australia) and ask them what grades they...

Re: Piano Technique Series for Synthesia

I'm glad I can help all of you become better at playing the piano. I'm a teacher, so I couldn't resist! :) Quick public service announcement: I'll be away for the next two weeks, so I won't be able to update until then - but the good news is that I'm taking my laptop with me and I will be able to us...

Piano Technique Series for Synthesia

This new series of technique exercises is the logical continuation and expansion of the previous series of scales and arpeggios I created for Synthesia, taking into account new features that have been implemented into Synthesia since the old series was created. However, things will start slowly. I w...

Re: Good intermediate level MIDIs?

I don't really advocate the use of Hanon. They're just repeated patterns and stuff, which is good for warming up and learning a few common patterns, but for what you describe (accuracy for leaps and jumps, and arpeggios), they're not ideal. Czerny may be slightly better, but I have the perfect thing...

Simple Track Settings solo buttons

Many times while practising, I have wanted to play the left hand or right hand parts to a song without wanting to hear the other hand (or any other tracks) play. (This is often because I am working purely on speed, and have the speed cranked up to the point where hearing the other hand just makes th...

Re: Good intermediate level MIDIs?

I think the first movement of Moonlight Sonata and Für Elise are actually around the same level. One may seem simpler than the other at first glance, but they tackle different technical challenges, and are thus at the same level of difficulty for different reasons. In Für Elise, there are sections t...

Fingering hints will be included (directly into Synthesia) in a new set of scales and arpeggios which I am hoping to start publishing by the end of this year.

Re: Acoustic piano support?

While it is possible to do this, it is unreliable as you will be likely to get different results on different computers. Also, the time taken to interpret the sound going into a microphone and turn it into a signal that Synthesia can understand, is likely to be long enough to be unusable unless you ...
