Re: Is it possible to

Hitherbear, I use LoopBe30 (the big brother of LoopBe1) and it works very well. I've used it with Synthesia, Reaper, FLStudio, several piano libraries, and Garritan Personal Orchestra. For example, a typical connection path for me is: Digital Piano --> Synthesia --> Synthogy Ivory II --> Focusrite S...

Re: Synthesia 10

Nicholas,

Synthesia 10 sounds like a tasty gem. When will we be able to try it out? Am I missing something?

Thanks,

Dan.

Re: Note column

Adding user-defined metadata is a great idea. At it's simplest, it could be a text note for each song. OTOH, it could be useful to let the user define categories of "notes", with mutiple types of "notes" per song. I.e. instead of a "note" attribute for a song, a "notes" array with the key being the ...

Re: velocity monitor

When I was a very raw newb, I didn't think that adding a red strip across the top of a card deck was necessary. Then one day, while walking down the hall with my unmarked punch card pack, I tripped! :x It was quite amazing how a single marker line on a deck of punched card could prevent dro...

Re: velocity monitor

This should make you feel like you are drowning in the fountain of youth: When I was learning to program, we had to punch cards. Yep. Been there; done that. Type up them punch cards very carefully. Hand them to the nice folks at the RJE center. 36 hours later you get the fruits of your labor:...

Re: velocity monitor

My worry with Sibelius' solution is that it's a lot of extra visual noise. It starts to cover up things like staccato dots and finger hints. Presumably that's a display you'd only turn on briefly in Sibelius, whereas it would be shown in Synthesia for much longer. I hadn't really spent much time co...

Re: Two changes to the Learning Pack

Nicholas, Given the value that Synthesia adds to students, that's a very reasonable pricing structure. From a business standpoint, it sounds like a very reasonable model overall. I have only issue... I paid $29 to open up the features and get the library. Dirt cheap for the value added. Other people...

Re: velocity monitor

I like skeble's of displaying player and MIDI velocity, but I think translating a window on the side to a specific note to the right would be difficult. Attached is a screenshot showing how Sibelius 7.5 handles velocity. Notice that the velocity bars are aligned with the notes. The blue bar could be...

Re: Creating Tabs and Midis? And sharing them?

Thanks for sharing that! In a roundabout way, you may have just improved Synthesia's upcoming MusicXML support. That post led to this Steinberg blog showing off progress on their upcoming flagship Finale/Sibelius/MuseScore competitor. One of the posts was about the musical font they just buil...

Re: Creating Tabs and Midis? And sharing them?

I use Sibelius 7.5 for scoring and Reaper for MIDI modifications. Out of curiosity, I downloaded MuseScore and spent a few minutes working with it. Since I already have Sibelius, I'm not likely to change. That said, if I had known about MuseScore before buying Sibelius, I would have definitely start...

Re: Working with Development Previews

When compared with the huge advantage of keeping configuration nice and separate, the inconvenience of shuttling contents back and forth is miniscule! (IMO, of course.) Thank you for adding this feature.

LICECap - Free GIF Screen Capture Tool

Hi. I've noticed sometimes it is difficult for people to explain a bug or a technique. I thought it would be useful for Synthesia users to be able to upload animated GIFs of the issue that that are seeing. Today, on the Reaper forum, I learned about a free Screen Capture Tool that creates animated G...

Re: MIDI file simplification

PS Nicholas , is it time to update the MIDI collection of Synthesia to include all the new songs, Gilbert has added to his website? Actually, I've recently been considering a much more diverse (in type of music and difficulty range) repertoire. Now that we've got an in-house music arranger, it seem...

Re: MIDI file simplification

You're right Dan, it would be a huge job to clean up a MIDI file with so many tracks. Gilbert de Benedetti actually has a simplified two track version of this song, the national anthem of Indonesia. This is the same website that provides the MIDIs that come with Synthesia. http://gmajormusictheory....

Re: MIDI file simplification

Ok all, thaks for your help. I asked for simplifications as It has too many tracks and It is theoritically "impossible" as you'l have more than 20 keys to press at once j4cksp4rrow, What instrument do you want to play? It's not particularly complex, but the key issue (IMO) is that this is an orches...

Re: MIDI file simplification

Jim, An excellent point. Right now about 50% of my MIDI files are created from sheet music using music scanning software. The downside is that the process is a little complex. The upside is that it provides a more accurate starting point and lets you create a MIDI files from a huge number of printed...

Re: MIDI file simplification

Pianotehead, You make very valid points about understanding a song and the inherent difficulty of playing that particular song. While my suggestions above are useful for dealing with MIDI quantization, conversion, and structural issues, even the best "mechanical" modifications aren't much help if th...

Re: MIDI file simplification

j4cksp4rrow, It turns out that I'm currently trying to create a good workflow to clean up and simplify scores from MIDI files, and then create a new MIDI file . "Simplify" for me means: 1) Quantizing the MIDI file properly during import to Sibelius, 2) Cleaning up the score, including adding, modify...
