Meta Data

Hi Nicholas. I have just created a metadata file to go with a piano piece for a student who is using Synthesia on an Android device - which is new to me as I use iOS. However, it is much simpler to set up via an sd card. So I transferred the folder containing both the midi file and the .synthesia fi...

Re: What Tablets work with synthesia midi

Just a couple of other things. I couldn't get either a Mac or PC to 'see' the Time2 and after trying various ways of linking to my source files, I gave up and loaded the sd card externally via a USB adapter.
However Android File Transfer for Mac does work with the Kindle.

Re: What Tablets work with synthesia midi

Hi. I have just bought a 10" Time2 tablet which seems to be well made and runs Synthesia nicely. As with most cheap 10" tablets, it's in wide screen format so doesn't compare with the 10" iPad or the like. Most Android devices seem to have a very awkward route when it comes to adding songs, but if y...

Re: Assigning left/right hand

Just to answer my own question I have found out how to go it! Will this upload to other users if I import it to metadata?

Assigning left/right hand

I've just set up a midi file via Logic for a pupil who uses Synthesia. I have made one error in the left hand. Can this be edited in Synthesia?

Low End Tablets

I needed an inexpensive tablet for a pupil preparing her Initial Piano Exam, so I tried a JY 7' Tablet from Amazon retailing at £26.99 (free postage on Prime). It comes with 8gig memory (expandable) and all the adapters/connectors you need to connect to a USB source. Synthesia runs beautifully on it...

Re: Metadata crashes in Mac 10.10

MetaData Editor does not open in El Capitan, so I tried 10.6.8 and it doesn't open in that either.

Problems adding new songs (Mac)

Not normally a problem, but I have been unable to get a new folder added successfully. In the browse window, it shows 56 songs available, but in the Synthesia window it shows 0 songs. See screenshots:

Re: Metadata crashes in Mac 10.10

I've recently inherited a PC and switched to using MDE via Dropbox. This works well but you need to set up fingering, track settings on the PC as well - which is logical as Synthesia on the PC is reading the files afresh I suppose.

Tempo Lists &c

This isn't a question but I am delighted to find that that Synthesia imports tempo lists (from Logic), enabling, say, a rallentando at the end of a piece. Thank you Synthesia for releasing so many of my pupils' potential - not only is it satisfying to facilitate their learning, I get very few quitte...

Re: Installing Metadata editor on W7

I have restarted the computer and metadata now opens. I am pleased to see it is far easier to use in Windows than in Mac OS. Synthesia seems to have forgotten that I entered the code for the full version.

Installing Metadata editor on W7

I have downloaded metadata editor (so hard to find) on a windows 7 machine. When I click 'run' it gives a message: To run this application you must first install one of the following versions of the .NET framework: v4.0.30319 Contact your application publisher for instructions about obtaining the ap...

Re: Metadata crashes in Mac 10.10

Metadata is now more stable on Mac Yosemite, but you still have type entries slowly. Otherwise it works well. I am now using a PC as well but I can't find the download for Metadata!

Re: Solfege Issue

Thanks for the tip re musescore. I had a midi file generated by Logic for which the key sig did not show in Synthesia. I opened the midi file in musescore (which did pick up the correct KS - so the info must be in there somewhere) and re-exported as a midi file. Synthesia now shows the KS as one sha...

Re: MIDI USB adapter issues

Just to let you know I have bought the E-MU cable recommended by you and it works. I also tried a similar one from M-Audio and that works too. Neither like being disconnected and re-connected the way you can get away with if you are using a standard USB: I have found that if you lose the connection ...

Re: MIDI USB adapter issues

I got the adapter from eBay. It was cheap . Interestingly the first one I ordered was cancelled by the supplier because they had found a fault with them. Having compared the cable with a middleman 2X2 and trying both on a laptop I can see that the cable is at fault. It sends but does not return accu...

MIDI USB adapter issues

I have just tried a MIDI to USB adapter connected to the iPad. It's a cable style adapter as opposed to a full blown interface. It worked after a fashion but didn't play back all the notes. I was using a Yamaha GM 225 set to basic piano. Any ideas?

Re: Using android tablet

Thank you for this information. It looks like low end android tablets will have to wait a while. I was wondering if the wide screen display had anything to do with it. Any one want a cheap tablet?
