Re: Automatic Fingering Prediction 0.1ish

I expected it was going to take a while before we started getting halfway usable results out of this. A single one-finger difference in 228 notes is something like 99.6% accuracy, right? That's incredible. Congratulations. nah, hanon is mostly repeats, so the accuracy is not that good (but I'm glad...

Re: Automatic Fingering Prediction 0.1ish

So, maybe this software should have at least two pass: 1:First pass: Find patterns (scales, chords, hanon) 2:Second pass: We have to use algorithms where we can't find patterns. I'm thinking about that and have conflicting ideas. I'll put a limiter that will limit the chords to the user given finge...

Re: Practice Scheme

I second those comments, I would also recommend The Piano Handbook by humphries. It's a great book, teaches mostly on classical pieces, teaches actual piano, not like the chord based gimmicks like "play the piano in x hours/days!". To compare, I had also bought alfred's adult from all of the talk in...

Re: Automatic Fingering Prediction 0.1ish

this post has technical discussions, ignore if you are uninterested. 1. A growing set of reference .mid files with "perfect" or official fingering for each note in that piece from various sources, e.g. Czerny, Hanon and more. The fingering information should be written into a separate .txt file, wri...

Re: Automatic Fingering Prediction 0.1ish

Thanks everyone, for all of your input. The next version (loads midi files, has correct note names, shows how each parameter affects the scoring for easy debugging, compares different fingers to find how similar they are, more refined rules, better gui..) should be ready in 3-7 days. For the next st...

Re: Automatic Fingering Prediction 0.1ish

Having a short glance on last paper you mentioned, Kasimi et al., A Simple Algorithm for Automatic Generation of Polyphonic Piano Fingerings, 2007, I did not like the model shown in Figure 5., Cost function cvertical for finger pair 2,5. To me it seems the point x=1 with its value y=10 should be lo...

Re: Automatic Fingering Prediction 0.1ish

Are there going to be a guide on how to use this? Reading the first and second posts made by Frost is too much for my eyes. Sorry if I couldn't give out more detailed explanations. well, right now it's for testing only, so it's a bit messy. To use: -Write numbers into the first box (sample: 1 2 3 4...

Re: Automatic Fingering Prediction 0.1ish

The reason why I started from 1=A is, well, the leftmost key in piano is A.
now, thinking about it, I only thought of the 88-key full size piano, but what is the layout of smaller, 49-key, 76-key etc. keyboards? Do they also start with an A? C? Manufacturer dependent?

Re: Automatic Fingering Prediction 0.1ish

Couldn't wrist position be "learned" over a few notes? that's a good idea. right now it uses dynamic programming, so finds the absolute minimum, but the addition of heuristics on top of it can provide improvements. I got an idea, ish after reading your post, still hazy though. in a few days it would...

Re: Automatic Fingering Prediction 0.1ish

Having had no formal piano instruction (ever), I didn't know this was frowned on. I also didn't know what it was called. That's also an excellent expression. :) well, I don't know about the frowning upon it, I'm pretty sure there are complex pieces that are impossible to play correctly and fluidly ...

Re: Automatic Fingering Prediction 0.1ish

The different fingerings with different octaves bug is fixed. During the bug hunt, I also noticed a very simple but serious bug, though I'm not sure how much it affects the fingering itself. I don't want to take any chances, the fixed version is below. Also method2 seems to be defective right from t...

Re: Automatic Fingering Prediction 0.1ish

wow, that was fast. Why do you start the counting on A? I mean you suppose the first A in the C-scale gets the number 2, why is that? well that's due to technicality. was, actually. Now I can make the A0 A0# and B0 as separate and start the first octave from C, just haven't fixed it yet. When I ente...

Re: Automatic Fingering Prediction 0.1ish

LIMITATIONS: -No mute finger changes! Mute/silent fingering changes are when you press down a key with a finger, then change the finger pressing that key without lifting the key itself. We don't allow such Indiana Jonesiness. -No multiple keys with a finger! While playing chords, some difficult pie...

Re: Automatic Fingering Prediction 0.1ish

So, let's run the program. If you can bear with the horrible GUI, this is what you should see. The notes (numeric) and notes (alphabetic) parts are the main inputs (1 & 2). Numeric input takes numbers, 1 being A1, 2 being A1#, 3 being B1,.. and 88 being the rightmost key in piano. (actually it's not...

Automatic Fingering Prediction 0.1ish

Hey everyone, As I mentioned before, the first working version of the finger prediction system is done. This is NOT a usable version, it will be quite long before it can be used independently or in synthesia. This is for testing and parameter optimization; I need your feedback to correct and improve...

Re: 0.7.0 Preview r639

regarding the editor, do you have a timetable for the features to be added, or how much it would take etc.? To put things in perspective, I've finished the alpha version of fingering predictor (will put it for test in a few days as soon as I finish the documentation). Although it's still pretty much...

um, I couldn't find the time to check the new version, but is there a folder structure for the library? it can be hard to find what you are looking for in hundreds of songs. (not that I routinely play hundreds of songs, just 1-2 :) )

Re: Mode to improve Timing

... it would help a lot, I really don't want to learn how to read notes from a midi Guess there are some people who wanted to play while learning how to read from an actual notation sheet, and there are some people who listens to the sound and play without actually learning how to read. what I mean...
