Something's wrong with the MIDI

Bugtitle of the year award. I don't know how to systemically reproduce it. I don't know why it does what it does, but here's how it goes: (I've set that hardreset to 0 and that seemed to help for the lockup). I will play a song or two. Then when i start a song, when i hit the first note (correctly) ...

Re: Program to edit MIDIs

Anvil Studio starts out freeware. Also Mutools (win+OSX) has a free version.

Re: Fingering question

Btw, the sections are played from the 3rd note; DADEFAFEDADA, then AEABCEBCAEAE, repeat D, A, then down to F, C (further down), F, C, then back up to the D (which is where the screenshot starts). i think 521321231252 works nicely for the patterns. (Song is Valse d'Amelie by Yann Tiersen)

Re: Fingering question

Yes, i'm still working on it. The whole piece with both hands is still quite ways off, but i like the tune and i like the way i can practice hands separately here. even though i cannot play the arpeggio anywhere near the speed of the "real" thing, i still enjoy just sitting bashing them. i haven't h...

Re: 0.7.4 Preview r967

I'm unable to run the mididsm thing - just reports invalid win32 application (atleast when i'm trying through this remote desktop thing). Maybe it doesn't like 64bit windows.. i opened the relevant midi file in anvil studio, it also shows track. i guess i can experiment a little here see if i can ge...

Re: 0.7.4 Preview r967

I've tentatively bumped the delay between attempting to reset/load the next song from 1.2 seconds to 1.5 for the next preview. We'll see if that makes it happen less often. Otherwise, I try to match the channel of the You Play track. Sometimes that's tricky if you play some random note that doesn't...

Re: 0.7.4 Preview r967

piano locked up hard again on song library screen (r967). it was filtering songs at the same time as preview song changed (maybe changed twice rapidly). a little "brt" sound (from midi overload or somesuch) then hard lockup. also question: what channel is the midi sent back to output devices on? i w...

Re: 0.7.4 Preview r967

That is a really cool idea. it's like colored keyboards, just on steroids :D using gradients to show the flow of where the keys are coming. I like!

I'm not sure yet...
That looks very cheesy. Can't you make the effect "not" a circle?. The keys can fade on the lower part into grey, then you slap on the contrasty note name on the grey area. similar on the black keys!

Re: 0.7.4 Preview r967

Hmm, over 0.7.2 and 0.7.3, I actually built-in a bunch of handling specifically so it wouldn't do the resetting/new-song thing too fast. Maybe I need to increase that delay even more. If it's threaded you must make sure threads don't overlap and cause weird things to happen, but i guess you knew th...

Re: 0.7.4 Preview r967

somehow this version managed to lock up my piano. i had to turn it off and on again. never seen this happen in an earlier version. i'll try make it happen again! Strange. Out of curiosity, was it entering or leaving any of the screens that would before cause that little burst of strangeness on your...

Re: general feedback from a new user

I'll have to check on the mouse speed thing. I don't know of anything I'm doing that should be adversely affecting that. The vmware workstation console windows mouse pointers will be completely off if the font size isn't set at normal (100%) but scaled for example up to 125%. Maybe it's something r...

Re: 0.7.3 Preview r948 (Release Candidate 1)

Unfortunately most of those hours were spent in deep sleep in my case ;) but i've tried 0.7.3 now, tried the metronome, my piano doesn't have proper instruments so it sounds pianoy, clinky clonk by default - i guess i could tinker with it to make it some high-transposed electrical piano something to...

Re: Looking for a keyboard on a budget

if you have a sound card (like maybe 99% of personal computers) you do not need to get a keyboard with an output sampler so go on with a midi keyboard depending if you want an heavy/light sensitive, any midi keyboard with an usb port is good but watchout about the numbers of keys - 88keys is the co...

Blind mode? close your eyes or turn off monitor!

or do like me, look at the keyboard. in practice mode i only register movement in peripheral vision, and then i know i am playing correctly.

Re: Bookmark Repeat / Looping: How to improve this feature?

Snap to begin/end notes. that's what's bugging now, it'll make a nice measure, but it'll be in the middle of a note (maybe the yann tiersen midi isn't perfectly time-aligned though).

TonE might have onions about this too (sic).

Re: Bookmark Repeat / Looping: How to improve this feature?

OH also please allow to adjust the bookmarks using the on-screen indicator (dragging the yellow bar) - it's a "#%"# in the ass right now cause i can never get it properly aligned with a loop, cause it doesn't match a measure:

See attached for example

Re: 0.7.3 Preview r948 (Release Candidate 1)

I still say don't include time multiplier for scoreboard songs, atleast not in the early revisions :) Scoreboard should be as simple as possible. Anyhoo, it's not a big thing. I just wrote a post about having track priority for two-track midis, but then i realized i could just set the non-priority t...
