Re: Synthesia changing my DP's tone

Thanks guys. Jimhenry, does the piano play the track, if it's set to muted? Anyway, will try both suggestions the next time I'm at the piano and let you know how it goes.

Synthesia changing my DP's tone

Hello, my first post after a long break. Recently, I got a new piano, the Casio PX-5S. It has a direct USB connection port, so there's no need for my old and cumbersome MIDI to USB adapter. I wanted to have the piano play the track I was not playing, for example the left hand part while I'm practisi...

Re: Fingering on sheet music

One more question, does this mean that Synthesia will read (take as input) XML-files (song.xml) instead of MIDI files (song.mid?)

Did you mean 0.8.6? :)

Re: Breaking down songs into "parts"

It's interesting to compare various notation programs advance through the sheet. MidiIllustrator and Notation Composer (probably Musician as well) have a thin blue line, Synthesia and Home Concert Xtreme have the coloring of a whole measure, with a lighter thinner bar on the note to be played. What ...

Re: Breaking down songs into "parts"

I'm excited about this (XML) path the project is on. Do you know how or if XML supports things like grace notes, glissandos, trills and tremolos? All things that we like to include in our playing, but seem difficult to code.

Re: Breaking down songs into "parts"

The fake (lead) sheets at wikifonia.org can be downloaded as MusicXML files.

Re: Breaking down songs into "parts"

Sounds great, I worked with MusicXML a little bit in my small virtual piano project in my GUI programming subject at the University a year ago.

Re: Breaking down songs into "parts"

It's not at all embarrassing, Synthesia like almost all other software on the market, is a dynamic living thing, it's always in progress and reevaluation. What I like to see in all sheet music software, is that it be as close to the paper sheets as possible. I like the sheet music for Notation Compo...

Re: Breaking down songs into "parts"

I disagree with you on this, I don't think this is an important feature. If you play through a looped part and your timing is twice the length of the loop at full speed, or even if it "only" takes you 50% longer, then you know you haven't mastered it. Then you just have to play it over and over, til...

Re: Musicnotes.com (or similar) to synthesia.

But you can't use step input in a mixed notelength song? For example when there are two quarter notes, three eight notes, one sixteenth note, even followed by eight note triplets.

Re: Book or any material that explains music basis

Well, there are two playlists, one about how to play piano and the other on music theory, where he hardly touches the piano. I'd say the latter category is much more than just the basics, in fact the opposite, they are too detailed and theoretical for my taste. Here is the music theory playlist. htt...

Re: Best way to get kids to use it, and other questions

That is probably helpful. There is a package that has been advertised on this website, but I've not tried it out and so I can not comment on it's quality. However there is a small amount of free preview material. http://www.arturgajewski.com/piano/ I prefer to create my own MIDI files most of the ti...

Re: Best way to get kids to use it, and other questions

Is your piano 88 keys or smaller? If it's a full size 88 keys thing, any key pressed should cause the corresponding key on the virtual keyboard to turn grey. If the grey key is to the left of the green (or blue) note, you hit another key higher up your connected keyboard, otherwise lower down. If yo...

Re: 8.4 Preview r2193 - Smooth Scrolling Library

Synthesia r2193 crashed the first time I ran it on my laptop, my screen just went black and I had to force reboot. Next time it ran without problems. Don't know if the way I set it up is problematic, I replaced the old .exe files of Synthesia and SynthesiaConfig (0.8.3) with the r2193 .exe files, so...

Re: 8.4 Preview r2154 - New Keyboard Graphics

Just want to congratulate you Nicholas. The keyboard looks so so so much better in 3D. A great option to be able to zoom in on fewer octaves, though I'll probably not be using that option. Extremely well done, keep up the good work.

Well, I never insisted it was easy. Triplet notes should be detected and displayed properly. T...
