Re: Practise Mode Issue

Both of these issues have been raised elsewhere. The issue of moving on in Melody Practice by playing incorrect notes is on Nicholas' to do list. The computer keyboard issue is a hardware problem. Some computer keyboards are very limited in their ability to detect multiple keys pressed at the same t...

Re: Any organ players using this to help them learn?

I'm an organ guy. You can use Synthesia to learn a lot of the skills needed to play the organ. The big thing you won't get from Synthesia is registration. Check out the Miditzer at www.VirtualOrgan.com and its accompanying forum. Not much about learning to play but you might find some interesting st...

Re: Keyboard available in Rock Band 3

What are the limits of what you can do graphically with the lanes? There aren't many limits. While it's made just about everything else much more challenging, one of my earliest decisions was to keep Synthesia as close to the hardware as possible. I can do pretty much anything graphically. Though, ...

Re: synthesia or music sheet

OK, I see where you are coming from. Perhaps if someone were to create suitable MIDI files of rhythm exercises with various types of rhythmic aids for some of the tracks, Synthesia could be a better platform for learning rhythm, at least for those who aren't (yet) serious enough about it to find a t...

Re: Practice Mode: If you hit 2 notes when prompted with onl

No, I'm not using a lighted keyboard. But perhaps I didn't express the behavior I was describing clearly. What I was trying to say is that when you play a note, it is louder when you "hit" the note and softer if you "miss". The note is whatever note you are playing. That seems like a reasonable beha...

Re: Ain't Nobody's Business

This will provide an opportunity to refine how we handle MIDI file postings. Normally the discussion under a song would be about performance of the song. However, please post your thoughts about what information should be in the initial post. I'd also like to hear what you think of this type of song...

Redsal's MIDIs, a source of MIDI files

I have found a website that has many good MIDI files available, http://www.redsal.com/ . All the files on that site were sequenced by the site's owner, Mr. Sal Grippaldi. I have written to Mr. Grippaldi and he has given us permission to use his MIDI files: Hi Jim, Go ahead and use them any way you w...

Re: Synthesia doesn't react to my keyboard

You should have two MidiSport Devices listed for MIDI In, probably A and B. Look at which lights flash on the MidiSport when you press a key. Make sure you are selecting the correct Device of the two in Synthesia. Also be sure it is one of the MIDI In lights that flashes on the MidiSport.

Re: Practice Mode: If you hit 2 notes when prompted with onl

What would be the point of playing with different notes in Practice Mode? To me that is way to learn the correct note patterns. But you do bring up an interesting point. If you want to use Synthesia to play everything and then improvise along with it, you can't do that if you are playing the sounds ...

Re: Wrong Instruments

Sorry, patch means instrument. I think from the old days of analog synthesizers when you used patch cords to make electrical connections that determined what sound you got. If you click on "Harpsichord" on the track selection screen you can change to other instruments. Is it only the Harpsichord tha...

Re: is there a thread here that has a bunch of good piano so

We walk a fine line on posting links to sites with MIDI files. As we all know, many of those sites do a poor job of managing the copyright issues involved with MIDI files. I'm not being harsh about that, I know how hard it is to manage those rights. Unfortunately, Nicholas can't afford to put himsel...

Re: "Played Automatically" Sounds

You should be able to connect the MIDI Out from your computer to the MIDI In of your keyboard. Then set MIDI Out in Synthesia to your keyboard. Now you should hear what Synthesia is playing on your keyboard. There is a slight delay from when you press a key to when Synthesia will play that note. You...

There are a couple layers to the answer to your question. These answers all assume we are talking about in the United States. Anything you create is protected by copyright immediately upon creation without you having to do anything. If you "publish" your work, I believe you still have to deposit a c...
