Re: Piano Music

Have you managed to play a few songs from those included with Synthesia? If you haven't gotten that far, look at the Help Wiki (link at the top of this page) Quick Start. Once you have the hang of using Synthesia, you can drop a MIDI file into a "watched" folder and it will become available on the S...

Re: Sharing Personal MIDI's - For all to collaborate

I disabled MIDI files across most of the board a while back because blatant copyright infringement was becoming the norm. The next step was to go around and remove all the bad ones and then re-enable MIDI files. I haven't quite gotten that far yet. ;) Maybe this is where you invite in a volunteer m...

Re: 2010 Roadmap

After thinking about your idea of linking to URLs in addition to files, I do think this may provide an opportunity to jump start a DLC mechanism. What I am visualizing is a sortable, searchable database of MIDI songs that includes information like difficulty and user ratings. I am pretty sure that w...

Re: Keyboard available in Rock Band 3

What are the limits of what you can do graphically with the lanes? Are gradient effects possible or do you need to keep the design in flat colors that can be applied with area fills?

Re: Multiple inputs and more!

Nicholas, at some point I think you might want to permit a multiplayer mode. Piano four hands is an obvious use. That will require that you track where inputs are coming from. If it is easy to do, then I would suggest treating the MIDI Device as a high order portion of an extended MIDI Channel. For ...

Re: Documentation Wiki

I added a bunch of screen shots and some text to the Quick Start page of the Wiki: http://www.synthesiagame.com/wiki/index.php?title=Quick_Start_Guide I am trying to provide a concise guide to quickly some playing their first song. Comments regarding my effort are appreciated. Is there anything more...

Re: 2010 Roadmap

Starting with the easy stuff, IANAL (I am not a lawyer) is sometimes tacked onto opinions about legal matters expressed by non-lawyers. I probably notice that stuff more being a lawyer. I've never seen IAAL, probably because lawyers are usually smart enough not to express opinions about legal matter...

Re: Practice Mode: If you hit 2 notes when prompted with onl

Yeah, I have the fat fingers problem too! I agree that in Practice Mode playing a wrong note should prevent progress just as much as not playing a right note.

Re: in game chord identifier PLUS key signature info?

In terms of hassle, I'm pretty sure adding the chord symbol to the MIDI chord notes, either in the MIDI file or in an associated file, would be much easier than identifying multiple notes being played. However, the important question is what are we trying to do for the player. Synthesia is doing two...

Re: in game chord identifyer

Are you suggesting adding a chord symbol to the dropping notes display based on the notes you are supposed to play? If so, perhaps that should be combined with fingering as additional information that could be displayed along with the note symbols. I ask because when I first read your suggestion I t...

Re: Keyboard available in Rock Band 3

The RB3 keyboard doesn't respond to the Identity Request SysEx message. Would have been cool to auto-identify it and set the key range... And maybe add the half-octave color bands to the on-screen display... How about making the RB3 keyboard settings the default? Every keyboard except the computer ...

Re: Multiple inputs and more!

I'm an organ guy so multiple keyboards plus a pedalboard are always a given for me. As far as I can tell from my initial exploration, Synthesia ignores the MIDI Channel so if you have a real organ console that sends the different keyboards on different channels all on one MIDI Device, then you are a...

Re: Documentation Wiki

I'd like to help out by adding to the Wiki. Is anyone doing anything that I should be aware of so I'm not working at cross-purposes with work in progress?

Re: 2010 Roadmap

Brand new to Synthesia, so please forgive whatever follows that has already been discussed and decided. Nicholas, I think you are absolutely on the right track when you guess that the introduction of a keyboard in Rock Band 3 is going to create a big crop of new keyboard players. I am the creator of...
