Re: Synthesia won't change the keyboard octave on usb keyboa

It happens if another input device is used, like a software synthesiser, like Fluidsynth. Disabled input under Music device, and it worked again! :D You can probably make this work if you connect the MIDI devices running on your computer with a virtual MIDI cable, like the free LoopBe1. Trying to s...

Re: Good Polyphonic Finger Exercises

Look at Piano Fitness by Mark Harrison:

He has MIDI files for some of his books but I didn't see any for this book. It would be easy to generate your own MIDI files by transcribing from this book using something like MuseScore.

Re: Playing parts of the song

Yes, the feature you use is called Loop. Hopefully that will allow you to find information on how to set it up. I haven't used it recently enough to give instructions off the top of my head.

Re: Digital keyboard and additional sounds question

You are a musician, so this might not apply. I usually suggest that beginners to the keyboard start with a used 61 note unweighted keyboard, which can usually be found quite inexpensively. That should get you through your first year. After that you can decide if you want to spend the money for an 88...

Re: distractions and conditions

I don't use sheet music display, so I may misunderstand what is being displayed. But my reaction to the OP's screenshot was that the dark blue behind the current note makes it harder to read, exactly the opposite of what the highlight should be doing. The habit you should be training is to read a me...

Re: Pitch Interval Visualization for Game Play and Free Play

These ideas reminded me of something I was taught long, long ago when I was just starting to learn piano, namely thinking in terms of the interval to the next note to be played. If I remember correctly we were told to think in terms of up/down and number of half-steps. So if you had the notes C E A ...

Re: Does Synthesia support display numbered musical notation

Can XML support numbered notation? If so, then there is a small possibility that you could prepare XML files for numbered notation that Synthesia 11 (yet to be released) could display in the forthcoming XML sheet music display.

You can assign shortcuts to <piano pedal>+<piano key> so you don't completely loose the ability to play a note.

Re: A List Available with the 150 Included Songs on Synthesi

The REALLY important feature of Synthesia is that you can use almost ANY MIDI file with it, including ones you make yourself. The included songs are a small bonus but probably not a reason most people buy Synthesia.

Right. But I hadn't thought about the international implications. My bad.

Re: Display note counts

I was thinking they were looking for a visual metronome 1 2 3 4 1 2 .... And if that is what was being asked for, I'd add the suggestion of an audible count to help with learning to count aloud while playing. Pedagogically my concern with Synthesia is that it can make you dependent on visual cues. I...

Re: iPad input problems?

Good news though, I have the adapter that has the extra lightning input so you can charge at the same time, and I discovered that it works fine if I give it power while playing. :D Who knows how long before it dies entirely, but at least I have some idea what the problem is. That sounds like more p...

Re: Finger Suggestions Habits

The songs that come with Synthesia are from http://www.gmajormusictheory.org/ . The site is run by Gilbert deBenedetti, who has extensive teaching experience. It is probably safe to say that the fingerings are chosen to help you develop skills that will give you a good foundation on which to build. ...

Re: HELP!! With the free play feature

I don't use free play so this is just a guess. I think you'll need to split your keyboard so that the left and right hands are sent on different MIDI channels. I don't know if that will let you color the hands differently but I do know that without having the hands on different MIDI channels, Synthe...

Re: Synthesia 11

Maybe you should just require that sheet music be displayed in timeline when looping. You could have the loop controls automatically go into timeline display so you don't have to answer the "why is looping not working in sheet music mode" questions.

Have you considered enclosing a loop in the musical symbols for repeats (double bars with double dots) and then just bouncing the cursor from the end to the start?

Re: Buggy input, Casio and Windows 10

In my experience, keyboards are hardly ever the problem, which is what you suspected. Cables are by far the usual weak link. I notice that Amazon only listed used cables. Perhaps yours has a bad connection. For some reason, MIDI cables almost always have a defective design for the strain relief that...
