Hi Guys,
Right this is my first Midi Club song posting.
This tune has been kicking inside my head for weeks.
So today I sat down and tried to lay it down for y'all so please understand it is still very raw,
and I want your help to make it sound the way it should. This is why the Midi Club was formed
to get everyone collaborating on our own music and midi projects. And hopefully we can all learn
something from each other while having a lot of fun doing so.
Ok, so back to the song... Its all in C, and there is no timing at all, just freestyling and feel.
I have included my practice track as well so you can hear how it is formed...
On the practice track it starts sounding a little better from 1:45 onward and I kinda like what's
going on from 2:20 or so.
I also layed down a smoother (although not by much) version keeping a few things I liked from my freeform practice track.
I haven't tried to fix anything on the midis they are both 1 take roughs so please don't be too hard on them, I made them
to get some advice on whether I should pursue making into a full blown song and am asking for help on making it the way it should
be. I will include mp3 versions of both track cause they sound terrible on raw midi, so at least you can hear them on a decent sounding
piano from Garageband.
I look forward to all you input. Enjoy...

Hmmm... It seems as thought I can't upload the mp3 versions. I keep getting timeout errors.
Will upload them some other time when the site is more cooperative.

Mat,
Those both have a nice melodic feel. Oddly, I felt the practice track was the smoother of the two. I don't know that I can add much to improve what you've done. What do you feel you are struggling with at this point?

Those are GREAT soundin'
Free styling... Hmm, so as a computer programmer, I gotta say...
NOT very descriptive of your process to create it there
But I hope to figure out how ya did that SOME day. Cuz the end result is GREAT.

Weeeellll, A name would be a good start... Then there is the need for a better base hand rhythm, maybe a better suggestion on a nicer sounding key,
(C might be just a wee bit dull, not that I am much good a many others keys but that why god invented Logic and Garageband) Maybe a suggestion or
two on creating more drama from/in the chorus... Pacing... and a sexy sounding bridge... maybe some words to go with it, and thats off the top of my head.
I really want to see if collaboration can work across fibre optics, or maybe I am doomed to live in my own head... Forever.
I will try and work through any meaningful suggestions put forward and post them in chronological order in the first post to track the progression
of the evolving music. I am totally open.
Come on guys lets play...
Mat,
If I were trying to build a piece of music from your sketches, I would work them into some sort of musical structure. Being an extreme novice at scoring and arranging, much less composition, I'd probably use the tried and true 32 bar AABA structure. If you put your music into a recognized structural framework, then all kinds of rules of thumb can be applied for filling out the piece. Here are some web sites that might offer more help if you want to go this way:
