I think it would be great to incorporate the ability to sequence songs from sheet music. Not necessarily by scanner, but where the student inputs the notes from his piano. The computer would wait for his input for the start of each eighth note for example, the sustain pedal could advance that note into a dotted quarter by depressing twice.

This would not only be a good learning experience for the student, it would add a song to his library.

I'm still holding off on making Synthesia a full-fledged sequencer for now. There are a number of other apps that already do a nice job (like the free Sekaiju) so it'd be a lot of duplicated effort.
