Hi Nicholas
Is there a way of resetting the points to zero? I use Synthesia a lot in lessons and obviously the points get maxed out.

Sorry for the wait on this.
The brute-force way to do this is to delete scores.xml and songProgressCache.xml from Synthesia's data folder.
(You can get there easily by holding your Shift key while launching the app. Then click "Open Data Folder".)
