Hello,

I was just wondering if it is possible to edit the midi files within synthesia?

(eg if there is 1 error, it would be easier than regenerating the midi and redoing the left / right hand settings etc in Synthesia.

Thanks!

On the "Hands, Colors, and Instruments" screen, the "Custom" setting will let you assign individual notes to left hand, right hand, background, or muted-and-hidden.

Perhaps that might work for you, depending on the type of error you want to correct?

Hello, I was thinking of moving midi notes or changing note durations...

Not sure if this is possible within Synthesia...

Eg while I am setting left and right hand for the notes and find some mistakes it would be great to edit these within Synthesia, otherwise would need to redo the midi file in another program, and redo all the right and left notes again in Synthesia...

There aren't any arbitrary editing functions built into (or planned for) Synthesia today. Bavi_H's mention of the ability to hide individual notes is as far as it goes.

To work around the problem of having to re-enter all your finger hints, you could use the metadata editor to extract the current finger hints. Then, after editing (assuming only small duration/pitch changes), you could paste them back into the new line in your .synthesia file. (Unfortunately that is even more work imposed because there aren't editing features inside the app...)

Hi Nicholas,

I have pasted the parts and hands from old to new midi file, and saved the metadata file...

Does it matter in which folder/location I save the metadata file?

Thanks,

The folder shouldn't matter so long as it's a folder Synthesia is searching for songs. (The easiest answer is the same folder as the MIDI files themselves.)

Is it not showing up? If you've made any "local" modifications to the new version of the song (by adding finger hints inside the app), those will override anything that Synthesia finds in metadata files. (Otherwise you'd never be able to customize things after a .synthesia file was added.) So that might be the situation here.
