http://hdpiano.com/ has updated and added to their song library - is anyone using it?
I can't seem to figure out exactly what they mean by "Hybrid Lesson" - it says 'half hd video, half computer software' and 'Integrated Seamlessly with the Best Piano Software' ... I understand the video portion, but I can't seem to find any information on the computer software portion, and though they are using synthesia in the videos, there is no mention of it anywhere on the website.
Has anyone here subscribed to it?
Can subscribers download midi files in order to learn with synthesia themselves, or are they just using that in the video?
Is there some means (that I am not aware of) that you can extract a midi file from a youtube video, so that by subscribing, you just get access to more songs?

So I guess no one is using hdpiano.com yet!
I did write to ask what they meant by 'integrated seamlessly with the best piano software', and if they were in fact providing midi files for download, but didn't hear back from anyone. I have to say, I think it's a bit of false advertising to clearly show videos using synthesia, but not provide your customers means of doing that themselves.
Disappointing. A lot of the songs look great and I'd love to learn to play them.
(Unless there is a way to use synthesia with youtube videos, and I'm just not aware of it? And if that's the case, some instructions on the website would be great!)

No, there is no way to extract a MIDI file from a YouTube video because it isn't in there.
I am intrigued by the videos HD piano produces. My guess is that they make a MIDI recording of the lesson while they record the live video. Then run the MIDI recording through Synthesia to get the graphic portion. Finally edit the two together. The lack of measure lines suggests the use of a live recording MIDI. I think the piano keyboard may be the Synthesia screen. Maybe they painted a real keyboard with "green screen" paint, or maybe flat black, so they can superimpose the real hands video on the Synthesia screen video.

Yes, the live action video is interesting.
While it is cool to look at, it would be very hard for a beginner on my level (on a scale of 1-10 I'm a 0. Well, maybe a 1 by now. I am working my way through the primer levels!) to actually learn the song that way.
Perhaps it's aimed at more accomplished pianists. If I ever hear back from anyone at hdpiano, I'll let you all know what they say!

"Hybrid Lessons" means the video is a combination of live action video and software screen capture edited together. Some people do just live teaching. Others do just screen capture. HD Piano is proud to be the leader in hybrid video lessons, which combines the best of both.
Subscribers get access to our full video library which is more than twice the size of our free YouTube library. Subscribers get to learn part 2 and 3, etc. for every song, not just the 1st part as shown on YouTube. Subscribers can learn full songs from HD Piano.
We don't currently offer MIDI downloads to accompany our lessons, but we're working furiously to offer that feature within the next 3-6 months. Please stay tuned and be patient with us

When we offer MIDI downloads, however, there will likely be an additional cost (separate from any subscription fees) due to the structure of licensing and copyrights.

Yeah, we've been working with HDPiano to arrange many of the songs that have been popular on their site. They're not exactly the same version (ours includes background instruments and the full song) but the overlap between their catalog and ours isn't a coincidence.
