Hello, and first of all I want to thank you for this excellent piece of software! :)
However, I have a small problem when I try to use two different IN/OUT-devices. I can get sound from the input device or the output device, but NOT both at the same time. So I have to choose between Hearing what I play myself OR hearing the "Automaticly played" tracks. Never both.
Midi input works as it should. Output doesn't.
Here's my setup:
I play on my 49e-keys (midi-controller with no sound itself) and use the sound of my korg triton, because the triton's too big and heavy to have in my lap. :p 49e has midi out and usb midi out/in. Triton has Midi out, Midi in and Midi Thru. I also have a M-audio midisport (2xMidi out/Midi in and usb midi out/in). On my soundcard I have midi out/in and enough usb ports and cables (probably enough for any smaller nation.)
When I look at the mess, I see endless of ways I COULD connect the cables so it SHOULD work, and I think I've tried every last one. I've also tried various "midi loopback-software". But those make synthesia crash, heavily. Now I'm beginning to think that it's a Windows Vista-issue (midi-options availible are sparse to none.) But still, cubase and such are working fine. Maybe what I'm after is a "midi echo-option" in the game?
Well, if anyone has any ideas I would be more than happy to try them out. :)
v0.6.1: Midi echo possible? (two devices, windows vista)
When describing problems, always mention your OS and game version (shown at the bottom of the title screen).
If your keyboard has USB or MIDI ports, there is a tremendously high chance (>99%) it will work with Synthesia. See what you'll need on the keyboards page.

To clarify, let me outline a situation and you tell me if this is what's going on.
1. Connect your 49e to your computer via USB.
2. Connect your Triton's MIDI Out to one of the MidiSport's Ins.
3. Connect the MidiSport to your computer via USB.
Now, start the game and choose one of the songs that came with it. (What I'm getting at is a song with more than one track.)
4. Set input to 49e.
5. Click the speaker icon in the input box. If you play notes, they should appear in the small black box.
6. Set output to the MidiSport port your Triton is connected to.
7. Click the speaker icon in the output box. Your Triton should play the song.
Advance to the Track Selection screen.
8. Set the blue track to "You Play"
9. Leave the green track "Played Automatically"
Start the song.
10. The Triton should play all of the green notes.
11. Random playing on the 49e should make no sound at all.
12. Playing on the 49e that matches the blue notes should sound on the Triton.
Which of those is not working correctly? (Or, I could also see where you might not have been expecting the behavior in 11.)

Hey, thanks for the response!
Ohh, wow, I think you got me there... Sadly I'm at work, and have to wait many long hours before I can try it out again.
But anyway, I can tell you straight away that all steps 1-10 works just as you describe them. And it is on step 11 and 12 I get really uncertain and I must try it before I can answer for sure.
I have played the game directly on the Triton, and it worked just perfect.(Connected Triton's MIDI Out to the computers MIDI IN and the computer's MIDI Out to Triton's MIDI In.). However, step 11) Randomly playing would always make sounds, and of course I thought it should be like that. I probably never turned off the local control on my Triton so it only would send midi and not make sounds directly. (I realize that there should be some "self-sustained feedback" doing it like this (sorry, I don't know the english word for this?) but I guess the Triton can handle it. :p)
Just as you guessed, I never expected the behavior in 11. But now I wonder if I really was so silly, trying for hours, and not even once trying to hit the right notes? Arghh.
You are most likely correct. Thanks a lot!

I think your assumption was a fair one to make. In fact, requests for a toggle between "Play all of my notes" and (the current) "Play only my notes that are correct" are quickly climbing near the top of my list. (Of course, I only get the request after someone reports a problem and I reply that it's the expected behavior.)
I apologize for the confusion.
